The Bridgeport Sound Tigers’ season comes down to the final weekend. That and more in this edition of New York Islanders Daily Insight.

It’s down to the wire for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Just like the New York Islanders, who needed outside help at the end of the season to make the playoffs, the Sound Tigers trail the Hershey Bears by one point for the final spot in the Atlantic Division.

On Thursday, the team announced that they have recalled Connor Jones to help with the late-season push. Jones, 26, was solid during his brief stint in Brooklyn, but will rejoin his twin brother, Kellen, for the season’s final two contests.

In other news, Joshua Ho-Sang and Adam Pelech, two crucial contributors to the Isles’ late-season run, have also been recalled for contests against Springfield on Friday and Scranton on Saturday. With the playoffs lurking, their ‘A’ game will be needed.

The same can be said about Devon Toews, the highly-talented defenseman recently named to the 2016-17 AHL All-Rookie Team. The 23-year-old leads all rookies with 38 assists, and is tied for the league lead among rookie d-men with 42 points.

Bridgeport’s magic number is ‘six,’ but they do not control their own destiny.

NOTES

Empire State Development is “working to finalize” a request for proposal (RFP), said spokeswoman Amy Varghese. If granted, this would allow the “state’s primary business development agency” to develop Belmont Park. In response, Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, the group that runs both Barclays Center and Nassau Coliseum, will be making a counter-offer.

Did Anders Lee dethrone John Tavares as the team’s MVP this past season? That’s what my colleague, Bryan Saur, explored in his column yesterday. Coincidentally, I too explored Lee’s breakout campaign.

No, Scott Stevens wasn’t named the Isles’ head coach, but Doug Weight was. The Isles officially stripped the interim tag from Weight on Wednesday, and promoted him to Lord Supreme Ruler. Just kidding. But, as John Santamaria notes, this could help keep Tavares in blue and orange.
