The Seattle Mariners honored Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. on Thursday with a statue outside Safeco Field.
On Thursday afternoon, the Seattle Mariners unveiled their latest celebration of the career of Ken Griffey Jr. in the form of a statue which depicts Griffey’s iconic sweet left-handed swing.
The Mariners retired the legendary left-hander’s number last summer following his induction to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Griffey received 99.3 of the votes to be inducted, the highest percentage of all-time.
Now to go along with his number being retired and a Hall of Fame ring, “The Kid” will forever be immortalized with a tremendous statue honoring him near the home-plate gate outside of Safeco Field.
As well as the unveiling of the statue, the first 45,000 fans to enter Safeco field for Friday night’s game will be given a replica of the statue with 24 random ones being signed by Griffey himself.
This statue unveiling is just another addition to what will be an eternity of Major League Baseball honoring one of the greatest players of all time.
