After taking the first two games of the series against the Rays, the New York Yankees are aiming to finish off the sweep on Thursday.

The New York Yankees are entering the final game of this three-game series on a roll, winning three straight games and looking to make it four on Thursday night with a sweep.

They enter play tonight after winning their eight consecutive regular season series’ against the Rays at Yankee Stadium, their longest streak against any team at the new Yankee Stadium.

Tonight, manager Joe Girardi hands the ball to Luis Severino, who will be looking to redeem himself in his second start of the season and show how he belongs in the Yankees rotation.

In his first start of 2017 against the Orioles, Severino didn’t pitch too poorly, but he did surrender four earned runs in five innings while striking out six batters in the mean time.

Severino will be going up against a Rays lineup that has not seen much success against the right-hander in the past, so he does have that going for him.

Opposing Severino will be Tampa Bay right-hander Matt Andriese, who struggled against the Bronx Bombers in 2016.

In three starts in 2016 against the Yankees, Andriese sported a 6.00 ERA while giving up six home runs, the most he surrendered to any MLB team throughout the season.

It should also be noted that Andriese was the pitcher on the mound last August when Tyler Austin and Aaron Judge went back-to-back in their first big league at-bats.

Lineups:

Here Comes The Judge:

Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge has been on fire at the plate within the past few games, proving he belongs at the major league level.

In his past three games, Judge is slashing .545/.615/1.364 with three home runs, six RBI’s and only one strikeout. He has been the driving force in a New York lineup that has been rattled with injuries.

Expect Judge to continue his hot streak on Thursday against Matt Andriese, the pitcher he launched a 448-foot home run against in his very first big league at-bat.

This Day In Yankees History:

On this day in 2009, New York Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher pitched an inning against the Tampa Bay Rays in what was already a blowout affair.

Swisher did not surrender any runs during his inning of work, but did give up one hit and struck out a batter.
