With the New York Yankees coming off a win against the Rays, here’s the news and notes you need to know.

In Thursday, April 13, 2017’s edition of New York Yankees Bronx Bomber Buzz, we take a look at an injury update regarding Brett Gardner as well as other news from within the organization.

While running down the first base line in Wednesday’s game, Brett Gardner had a brutal collision with Rays first baseman Rickie Weeks Jr. where Gardner’s chest was slammed into Weeks’s head.

The left-fielder took a while to get back up to his feet but was eventually able to do so and walk back into the locker room on his own.

Following the game, both Brian Cashman and Joe Girardi stated that Gardner would undergo further tests on Thursday to ensure he did not receive a concussion or any injury during the blow.

Another injury update comes in the form of pitching prospect James Kaprielian, which didn’t turn out to be good news for the Yankees at all.

Following tests being done on his throwing arm, doctors have mapped out two choices that the right-hander can select. He can either have Tommy John surgery or he can just simply opt to pitch through the pain.

“So he’s basically going to have a day or two, I think, to talk to his father and his family and his agency and then get back to us what he would like to see happen,” Cashman said.

It will certainly be interesting to see which choice Kaprielian decides to make, either go under the knife or just pitch with the discomfort.

The final news of the day comes from the Yankees designating Johnny Barbato for assignment in order to free a roster spot for left-hander Jordan Montgomery.

In 13 appearances in 2016, Barbato sported a disastrous 7.62 ERA but has shown a certain level of promise while pitching in the minor leagues.

Now, the Yankees look to wrap up the sweep of Tampa Bay with Luis Severino on the mound and head into their series against the Cardinals the hottest they have been all season.
