The New York Mets have baseball’s top prospect in shortstop Amed Rosario, according to ESPN’s Keith Law.

New York Mets prospect Amed Rosario is the best prospect in baseball, according to ESPN’s Keith Law.

Before the season, Law had Rosario as the third best prospect behind Andrew Benintendi and Dansby Swanson. Recently he released an updated top 50 prospect list and the shortstop was number one.

“He has MVP potential as a true shortstop who will be above average defensively and projects to hit .300 with some walks and power,” Law said. He’ll become a cornerstone at short for the Mets, who have lacked one since Jose Reyes first left in free agency.”

The shortstop signed with the Mets in 2012. Last year he played for High-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton where he hit a combined .342, according to SNY. He had five home runs and 19 stolen bases last year.

Law says the Mets prospect is just scratching the surface of his offensive potential. He is one of five Mets on the list, joining Dominic Smith, Thomas Szapucki, Robert Gsellman, and Justin Dunn.

There are teams that are interested in Rosario but the Mets have told them that they aren’t going to trade him. It looks like the Mets will keep the number one prospect in the game and that’s a good thing because it means they won’t ruin Rosario’s career like they did with Ty Kelly.
