The official reason for the feud between New York Mets’ mascot Mr. Met and ace Noah Syndergaard is a fear called Masklophobia. Yep, it’s true.

Masklophobia is officially termed by Phobia Wiki as a “fear of people in masks and costumes, such as mascots, full-bodied costumed characters, masquerade costumes and Halloween costumes.”

And none other than New York Mets ace Noah Syndergaard has been afflicted by this rare condition.

In an in-game “interview” hosted by ESPN’s Karl Ravech and Dallas Braden with Mets’ mascot Mr. Met, the true reason behind Syndergaard’s extremely public and personal feud with the beloved Mets character was revealed — Syndy is simply afraid of the man that has a baseball for a head.

This back-and-forth between Syndergaard and Mr. Met has been going on for about as long as he’s been playing in Queens — almost two full seasons.

Mr. Met ultimately ended his time in the booth tonight by showing his support for Thor after he struck out Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon on a high fastball to get out of a runners on second and third jam to end the top of the fifth inning.

Syndergaard ends his night against the Marlins after seven strong innings, as his final line sits as follows: 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 9 K.
