The Hollidays came early for the New York Yankees with Matt Holliday crushing his first home run of the season.
Matt Holliday has put the “bomb” back in the Bronx Bombers with his two-run shot to put the New York Yankees up 3-1 over the Baltimore Orioles Friday night.
Holliday, who showcased his power in spring training, has shown what a valuable contribution he is to the Yankees lineup. In the top of the third inning with Brett Gardner dancing off of third base, Holliday took advantage of a distracted Ubaldo Jimenez on the mound.
On a 2-2 count, Holliday took a Jimenez splitter and deposited it into the left-field stands with two outs.
Holliday crushed 20 home runs last season for the St. Louis Cardinals, marking his 11th season with 20 or more home runs in his 14-year career.
With that show of power early on, it’s safe to say he’s well on his way to producing several more runs for the Yankees via the long ball.
The third inning run also marked Holliday’s 1,999th career hit.
Mr. Forearms just launched a go-ahead shot and that ball went on a Holliday itself.
