Jacob deGrom faced off with Bartolo Colon on Wednesday evening as the Atlanta Braves defeated the New York Mets, 3-1.

Thor Proclaims that NYC is Painted Blue and Orange

Noah Syndergaard wears the blue and orange like no other before him. Not only has he established himself as the best pitcher in a stable of quality arms, he has grabbed the Mets banner and become the unofficial flag-bearer.

The mighty Thor has treated Twitter like his personal billboard, never hesitating to air out grievances with the likes of Bryce Harper or Mr. Met. Wednesday, he turned to a different media to cause a stir.

During an interview with Dan Patrick on Patrick’s nationally syndicated show, Syndergaard proclaimed the “big apple” as a Mets’ city. Considering the success of the two teams over the past two years, he may not be wrong.

If the Metropolitans truly want to complete the takeover of the city, than the Amazins will need to finish what they started back in 2015 and win the World Series. A feat their cross town rivals have done 27 times.

Former Top Prospect Desmond Jennings signs Minor League Deal

Wednesday saw the Sandy Alderson pen once highly-touted outfield prospect, Desmond Jennings to a Minor League deal. Jennings failed to make the major league roster of the Cincinnati Reds resulting in his outright release from the club.

This is a low risk, high reward gamble for the Mets. Jennings showed flashes with the Tampa Bay Rays during his first few major league years. However, inconsistency resulted in less playing time, ending his time with the team.

Jennings will be assigned to Las Vegas where he can get playing time and be available in emergency situations while Juan Lagares and Brandon Nimmo recover from injuries. The Mets currently have Jay Bruce, Yoenis Cespedes, Curtis Granderson and Michael Conforto on the big league roster.

Rain in the Forecast for NYC on Matt Harvey Day

“It’s important to get guys in some routine and rhythm,” Collins said during a media address on Wednesday. With torrential rain in the forecast to clear by the time the third game against the Atlanta Braves kicks off, Matt Harvey may still make his first start of the season.

Harvey has not pitched in a regular season game since last July when he was placed on the disabled list, ending his 2016 campaign. The Mets are already dealing with injuries to two capable starting pitchers in Steven Matz and Seth Lugo.

Collins may want to think twice about starting Harvey on Thursday evening or limit his pitches to not overwork the pitcher who is coming back from a long absence. Jacob deGrom reached 95 pitches in his first start since returning from his injury, expect the same for Harvey.

Seth Lugo Elbow Injury Update

The snake-bitten New York Mets have continued their 2016 ways when it comes to starting pitching. Seth Lugo, one of the two pitchers that stepped up for the fallen aces last season in leading the Metropolitans to a Wild Card bid, now finds himself sidelined.

Coley Harvey of ESPN provided the following in a tweet on Wednesday, “Doctors have told Mets GM Sandy Alderson that the presence of fluid around Seth Lugo’s elbow is an indication of a recent injury.”

Whether this occurred during the World Baseball Classic or Spring Training remains to be seen. What this should tell Alderson and the staff is that a lot of pitching isn’t always enough pitching. Buckle your seatbelts it could be another bumpy ride.

Bart Comes Back

There aren’t many visiting players that will receive the ovation that Bartolo Colon received on Wednesday night. But there isn’t another player in the league like “Big Sexy.”

Colon kicked off his 20 years in Major League baseball with an ovation from a fanbase he endeared himself to. Though his tenure with the Amazins was short, what he was able to do during that time frame was simply … amazing!

Bart was able to limit the Mets to one run in the no decision. He showed no mercy to his former mates, not allowing a hit for the first three innings.
