Following a brutal opening day loss, the New York Yankees look to bounce back in game two of the young season.

The New York Yankees are coming off a crushing 7-3 loss on Sunday to the Tampa Bay Rays in their Opening Day matchup.

This loss now sets a Yankees record for most consecutive opening day losses at six. It looks like Opening Day just hasn’t been the Bronx Bombers’ thing within the past couple of years.

Tonight, Joe Girardi hands the ball to CC Sabathia, who will be looking to perform well in his first start of the 2017 season. The lefty is coming off his best season since 2012 when looking at ERA.

Sabathia posted a 3.91 ERA in 2016, being one of the few consistent pitchers in the team’s pitching staff. After a rocky spring training, he will be looking to replicate his season from last year.

Opposing Sabathia will be Tampa Bay right-hander Jake Odorizzi, who will also be looking to replicate a successful 2016 campaign.

In three starts against the Yankees in 2016, Odorizzi went 2-1 with a 2.29 ERA. He will be aiming to take advantage of a youthful Yankee lineup with his highly advanced repertoire.

Lineups:

Player To Watch:

Greg Bird

The Yankees starting first Greg Bird should be excited to see Odorizzi on the mound on Tuesday, considering he has had success against him in the past.

In five career at-bats against the right-hander, Bird is batting .400 with two home runs and four RBI’s. It’s a small sample size, but two home runs in five at-bats against a single pitcher is something to take note of.

Expect Bird to have his first breakout game of the season and potentially go deep again against the Rays’ righty.

This Day In Yankees History:

In 2009, the first-ever game at the new Yankee Stadium was played. The Yankees defeated the Chicago Cubs in an exhibition matchup by a 7-4 score on the back of three home runs.

Bold Prediction:

The New York Yankees will just edge out Tampa Bay by a 3-2 score which is benefited significantly by a solo home run by Greg Bird.
