New York Knicks legend Patrick Ewing has been an assistant coach in the NBA for 14 years with four teams. Is he ready to lead his alma mater?
The Georgetown Hoyas are reportedly zeroing in on New York Knicks legend Patrick Ewing to be their next head coach.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, Ewing will have a formal meeting with Georgetown officials on Monday.
The Hoyas have been without a coach for nearly two weeks after firing John Thompson III on March 23. Thompson led the team for 13 seasons but fell out of favor recently with students and alumni after finishing below .500 and missing the NCAA Tournament in the last two seasons.
Ewing, currently the associate head coach for the Charlotte Hornets, has paid his dues at the NBA level. He’s been an assistant coach in the Association for 14 years with four different teams. Last summer he reportedly interviewed for the head coaching job with the Sacramento Kings.
The Hall of Famer has been waiting for this opportunity. We just always thought it would be at the pro level.
Per Woj, Ewing already has a plan in place as a novice at the college game. He’s spent the week sizing up experienced candidates for his staff.
It sounds like Ewing is the guy.
