New York Mets bullpen catcher Dave Racaniello ‘beat up’ star pitcher Jacob deGrom in an intrasquad game today.

Does New York Mets bullpen catcher Dave Racaniello know that Jacob deGrom is a Met? Or is this just amateur hour?

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com tweeted a picture today of Racaniello batting against deGrom during Thursday’s intrasquad game.

The former National League Rookie of the Year was laughing on the mound when he faced the bullpen catcher in the game.

It’s unclear why deGrom was laughing when the catcher stepped into the batter’s box.

Maybe he was surprised to see Racaniello in the game since he’s a bullpen catcher.

It’s interesting to see Rac play though, because bullpen catchers are often the hidden glue of every major league ‘pen.

Racaniello had one hit in two at bats in the game. deGrom pitched for three innings and allowed two hits and one run. He also had one strikeout.

The Mets beat their Triple-A Las Vegas affiliate squad 5-4.
