Three of the New York Mets’ five prolific starters are slated to pitch against the Atlanta Braves in the team’s opening series of 2017.

While it has been publicly known for some time that Noah Syndergaard would be the New York Mets‘ Opening Day starter, the rest of the rotation has been cast in some doubt.

After recently announcing that Robert Gsellman will make the major league starting staff, the Mets have now named Jacob deGrom and Matt Harvey the next two in line after Thor in the team’s opening series against the Atlanta Braves.

The most scintillating matchup of the series is Game 2, as it will feature an interesting duel that should both horrify and excite the Mets faithful, as former fan favorite Bartolo Colon will start against deGrom and the Metropolitans.

Looking to build off of his incredible 2016 National League Wild Card start, Syndergaard will oppose Julio Teheran in the opener, widely considered to be one of the better arms in the NL.

Harvey will face off against longtime St. Louis Cardinals southpaw Jaime Garcia, as the ‘Dark Knight’ needs to show a strong start to the 2017 season after offseason surgery to remove a rib due to thoracic outlet syndrome — a surgery that his counterpart in Garcia received himself in 2014.

This year’s Mets rotation has another chance to be historically good — a possibility they possessed last season that consequently faded away as deGrom, Harvey and Steven Matz all succumbed to injuries.
