Former Knicks and Georgetown legend Patrick Ewing has been an assistant coach in the NBA for years. Could he jump to the college ranks?
Georgetown fired men’s basketball coach John Thompson III after the team missed the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four seasons. After thirteen seasons with the school, it was time for a change. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, former Knicks legend Patrick Ewing could be that change.Per Woj, Ewing is being considered for the now vacant position. He’s been an NBA assistant coach for the last 15 seasons (with various teams) and was a serious candidate for the Sacramento Kings job this past summer.

The 54-year-old had one of the greatest careers of any college basketball players in history while playing for the Hoyas. He was a part of the school’s only National Championship team in 1984, a three-time All-American, and a two-time Big East Player of the Year.
Ewing has never been in the running for a college job but restoring his alma mater to his former glory could be too tempting to pass up. His son was on JT3’s staff, so the 11-time All-Star could have conflicting feelings about taking over from a friend.

Right now, it seems like a long shot. The Hall of Famer has always wanted an NBA gig.
