Following being ejected from Thursday afternoon’s game, New York Mets shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera took his time leaving the field.
In the fourth inning of Thursday afternoon’s spring training matchup between the New York Mets and Washington Nationals, Asdrubal Cabrera got into a heated argument with the home plate umpire which resulted in an ejection.
Cabrera became frustrated with home plate umpire Angel Hernandez following him not granting Cabrera his called time with a 3-1 count. Following this, both Cabrera and manager Terry Collins vented their frustrations to Hernandez.
A few pitches later Cabrera laced a single through the infield and childishly turned around and said some words to the home plate umpire. Hernandez would wait for Cabrera to reach first and then immediately eject him from the ballgame, something that you don’t see too often in spring training.
To make the whole situation even more interesting, there is apparently no exit from the visitor’s dugout at the Nationals spring training facility. Because of this, Cabrera was forced to walk across the field to the right-field gate in order to make his departure.
Of course, the shortstop did not make this exit in any kind of hurry like there was a baseball game being played or anything. He took his sweet old time strolling across the field, not caring if anyone was waiting on him.
Hopefully, for the sake of the Mets, Cabrera keeps these types of acts to a minimum in 2017 and focuses solely on having a productive season.
