With the Didi Gregorius seemingly out until the end of April with a shoulder injury, the team has reached out to the Diamondbacks regarding a filler.

According to Mark Polishuk of MLB Trade Rumors, the New York Yankees have reached out to the Arizona Diamondbacks along with other teams in regards to shortstop Nick Ahmed.

New York was not expecting to be in the market for a shortstop up until they learned within the past couple of days that Didi Gregorius will not be available until the end of April due to a shoulder strain.

Gregorius was forced to leave Team Netherlands during the World Baseball Classic due to shoulder pain which an MRI later revealed to be a strain.

This news has been tough for the Yankees especially considering shortstop is one of the few areas where they do not have much depth. They do have options within the organization, but none of them are too eye-popping.

If they decide to stay within the organization some names who could fill the hole are Starlin Castro, Ruben Tejada, Ronald Torreyes and Tyler Wade.

It doesn’t really make sense for the Yankees to make a deal for Ahmed at this point considering they have some better options already within the organization. In 2016, Ahmed slashed .216/.265/.299 with just four home runs and 21 RBI’s.
