The New York Yankees didn’t get the good news they were hoping for, as starting shortstop Didi Gregorius will now miss some time due to a shoulder strain.

Although at first New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi was very optimistic about the strength in Didi Gregorius’ shoulder, he now has to prepare for life without him.

After undergoing MRI’s on Tuesday, it was revealed that Didi suffered a shoulder strain. There will be no baseball activities for two weeks, he will not be ready for Opening Day and could miss the entire month of April.

Gregorius injured the shoulder while turning a double play as a second baseman, obviously not his regular position.

The absence of the 27-year-old will be felt, especially if he’ll miss the first month of the regular season. In 2016, he became just the third shortstop in Yankees’ history to hit at least 20 HR and bat over .275. The only other two other two were Tom Tresh in 1962 and Derek Jeter in 1999, 2001 and 2004. Gregorius also climbed to career-highs in home runs (20), hits (155), RBIs (70) and doubles (32) while leading the team with 54 extra-base hits.

This is baseball, though, and the show must go on. Starlin Castro, Ronald Torreyes, Ruben Tejada and Tyler Wade are expected to make a run at the starting position. You can check out ESNY’s breakdown on all of them by clicking HERE.
