With many names off the board, we wonder where the New York Jets will go for a quarterback during the 2017 NFL free agency period.

Twenty-seventeen NFL free agency frenzy officially started this week. Available players are flying off the board across the league, but only a handful snagged by the needy New York Jets.

Entering free agency, the Jets had released big named players with hefty contracts so they could fill some positions of urgency. These spots include cornerback, offensive line, safety and the much-needed quarterback position. Gang green released stars, Darrelle Revis, Nick Mangold as well as Brandon Marshall, plus others.

Naturally, we all heard the Jets had an interest in signing quite a few players prior to the start of free agency. Well bad news fans, as those players names that we heard such as CB A.J. Bouye, CB Stephon Gilmore, LB Nick Perry and QB Mike Glennon were all signed by other teams on day one.

Furthermore, the quarterbacks they were interested in that would have been starting game one of what is likely to be a very dreaded slow long season for the Jets are now gone: quarterbacks like Mike Glennon, who signed with Chicago and Brian Hoyer, who landed in San Francisco.

Just what are the Jets planning on doing at quarterback this year?

Were those free agents the team was said to be interested in just one huge smokescreen? Let’s investigate why the New York Jets failed to land a free agent gunslinger on day one. Firstly, it’s not that the Jets didn’t have any money to spend as they have the league’s 15th highest amount of cap space ($30,202,336).

Possibilities could have been they were either outbid by their competition or it also might have been none of the quarterbacks wanted any part of a rebuilding franchise and simply went on to choose the other team.

Is it possible that either Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg are amazingly ready in the Jets eyes?

How about the assumption that they have a trade set in the books already to move up in this year’s NFL draft, to select a quarterback they feel is ready to start this season?

Two QBs did have impressive combines. Deshaun Watson drew praise from many GM’s, for both his play on the field and his composure between the lines. Mitch Trubisky was also impressive at the combine and the rumors about Mike Maccagnan loving the kid have already been bandied about.

Out of the two, though, Deshaun Watson stole the show at this year’s combine.

Here is where Jets owner Woody Johnson comes into play. As we all know, the Jets are in rebuild mode. Woody could be fearful Jets fans might revolt and MetLife Stadium could be a ghost town as early as September. With that kind of thinking, the boss could be pushing for the Clemson star product.

Once again, as Gang Green fans already know, throwing a QB into the fire immediately has its risks. However, we do know Watson is really a fun player to watch on the field, which would cause the filling of MetLife stadium seats.

After examining all the evidence, here is the verdict: the Jets don’t sign any free agent QB and with their first pick in the 2017 NFL draft, they select Deshaun Watson, who will also be your 2017 starting quarterback.

It would be a Woody Johnson move.
