The Chicago Bears have released quarterback Jay Cutler and the New York Jets are a team of interest.

The New York Jets are in need of a quarterback and Jay Cutler just became an option for them. New York is interested in the former Chicago Bears quarterback and have already placed a call to Cutler, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.

According to ESPN, the Bears cut Cutler on Thursday after they agreed to a three-year, $45 million contract with quarterback Mike Glennon.

Glennon is expected to be the Bears starting quarterback.

The Bears acquired the quarterback from the Denver Broncos in 2009. He proceeded to lead the team to the NFC championship game in 2010.

Last year, he played in just five games due to injuries, recording four touchdowns and five interceptions. The 33-year-old is 68-71 with 208 touchdowns and 146 interceptions in his career.

Cutler going to the Jets makes sense. Gang Green recently hired Jeremy Bates as their quarterbacks coach.

Bates was Cutler’s quarterback coach with the Broncos and the Bears. The Jets would preserve their draft picks and not give anything up if they sign the quarterback.

One reason Gang Green should not sign the former Bears quarterback is that he throws a lot of interceptions. He does have almost every passing record in Bears history but he led the Bears to just one playoff appearance in eight seasons, which is another downside to getting Cutler.
