The NY Jets continue their purge on the roster, this time with their mercurial star, Brandon Marshall, according to multiple sources.

Every one of the New York Jets decisions thus far hasn’t really surprised me. Nick Mangold had a high cap number and was older. Darrelle Revis also carried a huge cap number and has been riddled near ineffective. Brandon Marshall, on the other hand, suffered through poor quarterback play in 2016.

Why was he just released?

As you can already understand, or as you’ve already heard, the Jets have released Brandon Marshall, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

No matter how many people tell me the contrary, I don’t buy that he was a locker room cancer. That’s overblown media nonsense.

I get the Jets want to continue to build cap space and with Marshall’s release, they’ll be creating another $7.5 million plus. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

More on that …

Marshall, who infamously said the Jets one way or another would be his last stop in the NFL, is already eating his words. He apparently requested his release so he can go to a winner.

This is a crazy scenario that now puts Eric Decker as the outlier at the wide receiving position. If the Jets are really sold on this rebuild, Decker is gone. New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles said earlier today at his press conference that “he wasn’t afraid of the unknown,” referencing employing a younger squad.

This move just speaks to that and the Jets could look to accelerate the development of Robby Anderson, Quincy Enunwa and Devin Smith on offense. We’ll have more on this as we get reaction from the organization in the next 24-48 hours.

It’s official Jets fans, the team has hit the reset button.
