New York Rangers forward Jesper Fast will miss 2-3 weeks with an upper-body injury after hit by Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals.

Things just got worse for the New York Rangers as another one of their players has been injured. Forward Jesper Fast will be out for two to three weeks due to an upper-body injury.

Fast suffered the injury during Tuesday’s game against the Washington Capitals. Alex Ovechkin hit Fast against the boards and the forward had to go to the bench after the hit. Shortly after that he went to the locker room. The forward has five goals and 15 assists in 59 games this season.

The forward’s injury is a huge loss for the Rangers since he can play from the fourth line and the top line, depending on who the Rangers are playing. He’s also one of their best power play players.

“He’s no doubt a big part of our penalty-killing, and a guy that we can slot from fourth line to top line, depending on who we’re playing,” Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said. “A competitive player. Obviously it’s a loss for us, but it’s an opportunity for some other guys who’ve been wanting to play, wanting a bigger role, to step up and get the job done for us.”

Fast joins a growing list of players who are injured. Kevin Klein, Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, Dan Girardi and Michael Grabner are the other players that are dealing with injuries.

The Rangers are 40-21-2 and play the Boston Bruins Thursday night.
