New York Yankees prospect Clint Frazier boasts an advantage on his road to the majors with this unique friendship.

The hype surrounding New York Yankees prospect Clint Frazier is extremely real. Ever since the “Ginger God of Flow” arrived in the Bronx after the Andrew Miller trade, he has provided even more excitement to the youth movement.

While Frazier’s introduction into the farm system hasn’t been the best, he still is showing excellent promise in the game.

In 25 games with the Scranton-Wilkes/Barre Railriders, Frazier posted a .228/.278/.396 slash line and has been continuously training this offseason for a coveted spot on the Yankees roster.

In addition to training, Frazier has used his time in the New York spotlight to mingle with some famous faces. However, one particular (and familiar) name has become not only a mentor, but a close friend.

“I’ve met Yasiel Puig, Colin Kaepernick, Abby Wambach, Stuart Scott, I mean I’ve met a lot of really great people, but overall, Reggie stood out most to me,” Frazier said on the YES Network’s Yankees Access: Prospects special.

That’s right, Reggie Jackson. The famous Mr. October and five-time World Series Champion has given Frazier tidbits of information that will help him become a better player.

“A lot of people don’t know, but I got to spend a lot of time with Reggie down in the instructional league. And he could tell I was frustrated, you know,” Frazier said. “Him and I were talking, I still wasn’t performing the way that I wanted to.”

Jackson is the perfect compliment to Frazier, a young star who hasn’t quite found his footing in the Yankees system. Jackson struggled in his first season with the Yankees, specifically with his teammates and coaches. While the former right fielder can provide on-field advice to the budding outfielder, he has done much more than that for Frazier so far.

“I’m in the car with Reggie Jackson in my Yankees uniform, and he wants frozen yogurt,” Frazier recalls after one particularly rough game. “So we go and get frozen yogurt. And we didn’t even talk about baseball, I don’t think. We talked about the off-the-field things, things that he’s struggled with, things that I’ve struggled with, and overall we connected on a personal level.”

The unexpected friendship will benefit Frazier in the long run, especially when he finally makes his way up to the major leagues. Having a 14 time American League All-Star in his pocket is not a weapon many prospects have at their disposal.

Even better, Frazier’s connection with Jackson will serve as a great learning experience on how to become more acclimated to life in the major leagues, when he gets there. Jackson and Frazier’s talents are extremely similar that Frazier could easily earn his own plaque in Monument Park.

Having both a mentor and a friend in Jackson will give Frazier extra motivation to want a career just like Jackson’s. And that will certainly benefit the Yankees of the future.

This personal connection is the best thing Frazier could have done this offseason. Couple that with frozen yogurt and Frazier quite possibly had the best offseason ever.

“Yankees Access: Prospects” will air on the YES Network Sunday, Feb. 26 at 4 P.M. ET, immediately following the YES’ Blue Jays vs. Yankees Spring Training game telecast.
