According to Nick Mangold himself, the former pro-bowler has been released by the New York Jets on Saturday.
Nick Mangold’s remarkable career with the New York Jets has officially come to an end after 11 seasons. The now former Jets’ center confirmed the news on his Twitter account Saturday afternoon.
The Jets selected Mangold with the 29th pick of the 2006 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. He was selected to seven pro bowls and was a first-team All-Pro in 2009 and 2010. Mangold was the longest tenured Jet on the roster.
Injuries plagued the 33-year-old a great deal in 2016. After missing only four games throughout his first ten seasons, the center missed eight games last season. While Mangold’s Jets career might be over, he will certainly be courted by other teams to fill their center position.
A spot in the Jet’s Ring of Honor awaits No. 74 once his playing days are officially over.
