New York Mets: Kevin Plawecki leaves game following brutal slide at home plate (Video)

New York Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki had to be helped off the field during Saturday’s game following a brutal blow at the plate.

In just the second spring training game of the young season, the New York Mets are already having to worry about injury problems. Catcher Kevin Plawecki had to be helped off the field on Saturday after receiving a brutal shot to the knee at the plate.

Nationals outfielder Rafael Bautista slid right into Plawecki’s knee with his left shoulder, which did not look too good judging by the emotion expressed from the catcher following the hit.

According to CBS Sports, initial reports suggest that Plawecki suffered a left knee contusion, but will receive x-rays later this afternoon in order to diagnose how bad the injury is and how much time will be needed to heal.

The 25-year old is currently battling in spring training for the spot of the team’s backup catcher and make the trip with the team in April from Port St. Lucie to Queens.
