In a strange twist of events at the New York Mets’ spring training camp, the team lost a star outfielder, but gained a fireballing pitcher.
The New York Mets have quite the arsenal of pitching talent at their disposal for the 2017 season, including the likes of Noah Syndergaard, Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom and Steven Matz. But it appears someone else wants to get in on that party as well.The Mets’ most prized possession, star slugging outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, hopped onto a mound at the team’s Spring Training complex in Port St. Lucie, FL and showed off his cannon to teammates and onlookers alike.
Following in the footsteps of former Metropolitan pitching position players like Michael Cuddyer, Ike Davis and Jeff Francoeur, Cespedes would figure to be one of the most prolific hitters in major league history to take the mound in an MLB game, should that actually happen.
That is except for some guy named Babe Ruth?
Of course, Mets fans would likely never want to see Cespedes pitching – except for the circus of it – for the simple fact that only two things could occur: either the Mets would be in the middle of a catastrophic loss, or Yo would get hurt by likely overthrowing.
Watch out Syndergaard, you’ve got some competition for the hardest fastball in the majors.
