New York Giants release Victor Cruz and Rashad Jennings (Report)

The New York Giants have released the once-promising Victor Cruz as well as Rashad Jennings, creating much more salary room heading into 2017.

Seven years in, it appears the Victor Cruz era is coming to an end for the New York Giants. Adam Schefter of ESPN broke the news via Art Stapleton just a short while ago.

Victor Cruz was going to be a $9.4 million hit against the salary cap in 2017 and the Giants will save $7.5 million by cutting him. The wide receiver was looking to enter the 5th year of a six-year deal he signed back in 2013. 

Victor Cruz, an undrafted free agent in 2010 out of the University of Massachusetts and used 2011 and 2012 to set the NFL on fire, combining for 168 catches for 2,628 yards and 19 touchdowns.

He has been bothered by nagging injuries ever since that has halted his once stellar play.

According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, New York also decided to cut ties with running back Rashad Jennings who has been with the team for the past few seasons.

Jennings was set to make $2.5 million in 2017, which is money the team will now use in free agency to help improve the team in other areas.

The end zone will be a little sadder next year knowing it doesn’t even have a chance for the salsa dance.
