After a strong week, a pair of St. John’s players, Marcus LoVett and Bashir Ahmed, receive a little Big East love.

A couple of St. John’s newcomers had a strong week in their last two games and as a result received some Big East love.

Freshman guard Marcus LoVett earned Big East Freshman of the Week for the first time this season after averaging 20 points in the last two games for the Red Storm. He also averaged 5.5 assists, 3.5 steals, shot 10-14 (71%) from inside the arc and 5/12 (42%) from the three-point line.

Junior guard Bashir Ahmed earned a spot on the five-player Big East Honor Roll after averaging 19 points and 6.5 assists in the last two games. In the win over Marquette last Wednesday, Ahmed scored a career-high 23 points.

Along with Shamorie Ponds, there is no doubt how much impact both LoVett and Ahmed have provided for this improved St. John’s squad. They’ve provided a lot of offense both inside and outside, giving head coach Chris Mullin more scoring options this year which was something he did not have much last season.

All of these youngsters have provided St. John’s more hope for the future as they continue to develop and improve.
