Brandon Marshall says he didn’t do a good job at being a leader and that led to the New York Jets have a bad year.

New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall blames himself and a lack of leadership for the Jets disappointing season.

Marshall and Sheldon Richardson had a heated argument in the locker room after a week three loss. Cornerback Darrelle Revis said at the end of the year that the incident between Marshall and Richardson left a dark cloud hanging over the team for the rest of the season, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN. The receiver said that he didn’t do a good job at being a leader on ESPN’s Mike and Mike on Wednesday.

“I don’t think we did a good job, us as leaders in the locker room,” he said. “We have to do a better job. It always comes down to the stars, the leadership. It’s on us and we didn’t get it done.”

He added, “I’m not going to sit here and make any excuses and point fingers at younger guys and this or that. It comes down to our veterans, the guys who have been in the league six, seven-plus years. We need to do a better job of making sure everyone is in line.”

Marshall, who is rumored to be one of the players that the Jets will cut, is scheduled to make a non-guaranteed $7.5 million in 2017. The receiver had what he calls the worst year of his career this year. He had 59 catches for 788 yards and three touchdowns this season.

The disappointing season led Marshall to predict that he’ll be among the top five among receiver in the 2017 season on ESPN’s First Take.

The Jets were 5-11 this season and, hopefully, Marshall becomes a better leader so that they have a better season in 2017.
