Top Five New York Giants Super Bowl performances

The New York Giants have had some great individual performances on Super Bowl Sunday on their way to winning four Lombardi trophies.

Since it’s Super Bowl week, we’ll take a look back at the top five performances by New York Giants in the Super Bowl.

This list is based on players performance for the entire game rather than a spectacular play showcased over the course of the game.

1. Phil Simms: Super Bowl XXI

Phil Simms had the finest day of his career completing 22 out of 25 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns and being named MVP as the Giants won their first Super Bowl defeating the Denver Broncos 39-20.

He completed all 10 of his passes in the second half, which helped the Giants set a Super Bowl record with 30 second half points. His completion perception of 88 percent is still a Super Bowl record.

2. Eli Manning: Super Bowl XLII

Super Bowl XLII would be Eli Manning’s coming out party. On the biggest stage, he delivered leading the Giants to two fourth quarter touchdown drives, as he and the Giants ended the Patriots dream of going 19-0.

The play of the game was his miraculous 32-yard completion to David Tyree which has been called the greatest play in Super Bowl history. He finished the game completing 19 out of 34 passes for 255 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

3. Ottis Anderson: Super Bowl XXV

The Giants game plan coming to Super Bowl XXV was to control the ball and time of possession to keep the Buffalo Bills high-powered offense off the field. Thanks to Ottis Anderson, the Giants accomplished just that. Anderson rushed for 102 yards on 21 carries and scored on a one-yard touchdown in the third quarter. The Giants held the ball for a Super Bowl record 40:33 their way towards winning their second Super Bowl.

4. Eli Manning: Super Bowl XLVI

Manning earned his second Super Bowl MVP award in four years completing 30 out of 40 passes for 296 yards and a touchdown in the Giants 21-17 win over the New England Patriots. He once again led the Giants on a game-winning touchdown drive in the final minutes. The highlight of the drive occurred on the first play when he connected with

5. Justin Tuck: Super Bowl XLII

The way the Giants defense performed against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl was one of the most dominant performances in Super Bowl history. All of the Giants defenders deserve praise but

All of the Giants defenders deserve praise, but Justin Tuck stood out and some felt he could have been named MVP. He had six tackles and two sacks, and one of those sacks was a strip sack when the Patriots were driving for a score before halftime.
