The Philadelphia Eagles have denied the New York Jets the chance to interview John Defilippo for the vacant offensive coordinator position.
The New York Jets reached out to the Eagles organization for permission to interview current Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo for the vacant offensive coordinator position following the retirement of Chan Gailey.
They were denied.

The number one way to promote the growth of a young NFL quarterback is consistency, and that is exactly what the Philadelphia Eagles have in mind.
The Eagles have plans moving forward to build around Carson Wentz, who was their first-round pick in the 2016 draft. Wentz enjoyed success as a rookie signal caller, and much could be attested to DeFilippo.
At the official conclusion of the 2016 season the Jets will have two quarterbacks left under contract, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg. Both quarterbacks are young with little (Petty) to no (Hackenberg) NFL experience. The Jets must have been paying attention to the work John DeFilippo put in with Carson Wentz, and were looking for him to recreate that magic with the two young signal callers.
DeFilippo, 38, has previous experience as an offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns in 2015. DeFilippo was also the quarterbacks coach for the New York Jets in 2009.
Being denied permission to talk with DeFilippo doesn’t necessarily mean the Jets top choice is now off the board. With former head coaches Mike McCoy (Chargers) and Chip Kelly (49ers, no thanks!) currently looking for jobs since being fired there are attractive options still available. Norv Turner appears to also be a former coach that would fit well as the offensive coordinator going forward.
Whoever the Jets decide on moving forward, there is no denying the talent on offense is there, they just need a solid offensive line and someone to run the show that can put it all together.
