According to ESPN.com, the New York Knicks tried and failed to engage the Cleveland Cavaliers in a Carmelo Anthony for Kevin love swap.
The New York Knicks are exploring their options when it comes to Carmelo Anthony. No matter how far fetched.
According to ESPN.com, the Knicks approached the Cleveland Cavaliers about their interest in a potential swap of Anthony for Kevin Love. Not surprisingly, Cleveland had no interest. Love, 28, is an All-Star player in his prime and Anthony, 32, is on the decline. No general manager would make that trade.
Unless he were trying to appease the King.
LeBron James essentially called out the Cleveland Cavaliers front office after his team’s loss to the lowly New Orleans Pelicans, their fifth defeat in seven games. James’ call for a “f—king playmaker” naturally invoked speculation as to whether he was specifically referring to Anthony.
Anthony told Marc Berman of The New York Post that his good friend wants to play with him, but it’s not something he thinks about.
“You ask me a question if he thinks I’d want to play with him? Yes. I do think he’d want me to play with him. I don’t think he wouldn’t. But I don’t know if that comment was about me. I don’t think I’m the only playmaker in the NBA.’’
“I don’t think about it – not something I think about right now. As far as playing with him, I don’t think about that. I can’t think about that. You know I’m not thinking about that.”
Per ESPN, the Knicks would have gone to Anthony to discuss waiving his no-trade clause had Cleveland shown interest in the deal.
With James’ pull in the organization, one would figure that if he wanted this deal to happen, it could happen. As good a friend as he is with Anthony however even he must realize this would be a bad move for his team.
This isn’t over, though. King James still needs his playmaker and Phil Jackson still wants Melo out of New York.
