The New York Rangers will take on the Detroit Red Wings in Hockeytown for a Sunday matinee as they look for a second-straight victory.

  • New York Rangers (29-16-1, 59 pts)
  • Detroit Red Wings (20-19-7, 47 pts)
  • NHL, Jan. 22, 12:30 p.m. ET, NBC, Full Preview
  • Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, Michigan
Consistency. This will be the keyword for the New York Rangers on Sunday afternoon.

Coming off a solid, well-deserved victory on the road in Toronto against the up-and-coming Maple Leafs, the Blueshirts will be in Hockeytown for a Sunday matinee on national television.

The Detroit Red Wings are riding a 3-0-1 streak entering the contest, after losing three straight just prior, just as the Rangers did before Michael Grabner‘s two goals propelled them to a nice win in Toronto on Friday night.

Rick Nash, just one of three Rangers reinforcements back in tow (Pavel Buchnevich, Mika Zibanejad), understands the importance of each game moving forward, via Stats LLC.

“It seems like lately we have been having a good game then a bad one,” Nash said on Saturday. “We kind of want to put some streaks together, so it’s very important to kind of bring that momentum from Toronto and bring it into Detroit and do a lot of the same things.”

In an Original Six matchup, defenseman Dan Girardi understands what it’s like playing a place they once threw Octopus onto the ice.

“It’s a tough building to play in, Joe Louis Arena, and we need to be ready right off the start there,” Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi said Saturday.

While the Rangers haven’t announced anything, the general observer would think Henrik Lundqvist would get the nod for this one. Backup Antti Raanta remains sidelined due to a lower body injury.

Lundqvist played well in Toronto. He wasn’t magnificent, but he was steady and good enough for a club that’s boasting an excellent offense.

This will be the second time the two teams square off this season. On Oct. 19 at Madison Square Garden, the Rangers fell to the Wings by a final of 2-1. This will also mark the second to final time the Blueshirts visit The Joe as the Wings are scheduled to move into a new home, the Little Caesars Arena, next fall.

First puck drop comes your way at 12:30 p.m. ET and can be seen on NBC.
