New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony addressed the harsh words written about him by Phil Jackson confidant Charley Rosen.
After the New York Knicks lost their 10th game in their last 12 against the Toronto Raptors in an embarrassing blowout, the last thing Carmelo Anthony probably wanted to do was talk about trade rumors.
But Anthony was asked about the article from Phil Jackson’s buddy Charley Rosen of FanRag which claimed that Anthony had, “outlived his usefulness in New York” and listed potential trade targets.
According to Frank Isola of The New York Daily News, Anthony dropped a bombshell when asked about the article.
“If that’s the case than that’s what’s coming from that side I guess it’s a conversation we should have. If they feel like my time in New York is over I guess that’s a conversation we should have.”
Per Isola, when Melo was told (twice) that it wasn’t Jackson’s words in the article but his friends he didn’t buy it.
“Listen, if that’s what they feel…if that’s what’s coming from that side that’s what’s coming from that side. I haven’t thought once about that to be honest with you. I hear it. I hear all the rhetoric that’s going on out there and I still come to work every day and play and bust my ass and try not to worry about it.”
When asked about his no-trade clause, Anthony did say that he hasn’t thought about waiving it.
“I’ve never even thought about that. I guess people are talking about it but it’s not something I’ve thought about so far.”
Now that is hard to believe. Melo has missed the playoffs three straight seasons and it looks like he’s headed for a fourth. A breakup could be best for both sides. Unfortunately, it looks like it’s going to be an ugly one. That’s not Anthony’s fault.
