Despite a very disappointing season, New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall doesn’t have any retirement plans for the near future.
Even though he is coming off one of the most frustrating years of his 11-year NFL career, New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall believes he still has many years left in the tank.
According to Colin Stephenson of ESPN, “I’ll probably play till I’m 38, 39,’’ Marshall said on Monday. “I love this game. I love it. I would play it for free if my bills were paid. I love it.’’
Marshall has one year remaining on his contract and is scheduled to make $7.5 million in 2017, however, none of that money is guaranteed. New York would save a good amount of money if they were to cut the 32-year old, but he has indicated he could be willing to take a pay cut in order to stay with the team.
The wide receiver had a huge drop-off in production this season, having the worst year of his career. He had 59 catches for 788 yards and three touchdowns, making it the first time since his rookie season that he had less than 60 catches.
At this point in his career, Marshall has expressed that winning is what it’s all about, especially since he has never played a postseason game in his career.
“Like I said, it’s not about the money anymore; it’s all about winning,’’ Marshall told ESPN.
It will certainly be interesting this offseason to see what the Jets decide to do with the 32-year old, especially considering his strong desire to continue playing for the team.
