The New York Giants get good news prior to Week 17 as stud CB Janoris Jenkins looks to be ready in time for playoffs.
Make no mistake about it: The defense is the main reason the New York Giants are returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2011.
The last four weeks have been taxing on the Giants defense as Jason Pierre-Paul, Johnathan Hankins, Damon Harrison, Eli Apple, B.J. Goodson, and Janoris Jenkins (back) have all experienced some sort of injury. The overall health of the defense is a bit of a question mark heading into the playoffs.
The good news is, however, that Jenkins appears poised to play come NFL Wildcard Weekend.
According to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, Janoris Jenkins bruised back is getting better and he said he is “not really” in pain anymore. There have even been talks of Jenkins being ready to play this Sunday against the Redskins.
Head coach Ben McAdoo has said that his starters will play in the Week 17 contest against the Washington Redskins.
Jenkins on playing this Sunday:
“I don’t know. We’ll see what the coaches say.” “I’ve been practicing a little bit, getting in a rotation and getting a lot of reps, continue to get the treatment. I feel better than I did last week. Coach made the decision not to play me (last week) and I went with it. I feel better this week.”
Although nothing would be more satisfying than knocking the division rival Washington Redskins out of the playoffs, McAdoo would be wise to let the team’s top cornerback take the week off. If the Giants were playing for a playoff spot or even a rise in seeding, the possibility of playing Jenkins could be considered.
The risk of Jenkins re-aggravating the back injury suffered December 18 in the win over the Detroit Lions far outweighs the satisfaction of sending the Redskins home for the new year.
