New York Mets’ all-star closer Jeurys Familia could be facing a serious suspension from MLB despite seeing charges of domestic violence dropped.

New York Mets relief pitcher Jeurys Familia is still expected to face at least a 30 game suspension despite having the charges of domestic violence against him dropped, according to Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News.

Familia pleaded not guilty in court earlier this week after an incident that occurred on October. 31st, where police in Fort Lee, New Jersey were called by Bianca Rivas Familias wife said her husband was drunk and begging to get violent.

When police arrived on the scene they said Rivas had clear injuries.

The court dropped the charges of simple assault on Familia the MLB will continue their investigation to decide whether or not to suspend the Mets closer — similar to the case of New York Yankees‘ closer, Aroldis Chapman.

While there is still ongoing investigations, it will help that Rivas denied all reports of possible abuse from her husband.

The Mets are certainly hoping that the MLB does not suspend Familia at all as they have made no major offseason moves.

Last season, Familia recorded a major league-leading 51 saves and the fifth-most strikeouts among National League relievers (243) since 2014.

While there is still time, it appears that the plan moving forward is to slide eight inning man Addison Reed into the closing role to hold the fort until Familia returns from his potential suspension.
