New York KnicksCarmelo Anthony wants to play vs. his old team, the Denver Nuggets, Saturday night. But like Derrick Rose his status is TBD.

The New York Knicks (14-12) didn’t stand a chance Thursday against the Warriors without Carmelo Anthony (sore right shoulder) and Derrick Rose (sore lower back).

The Knicks started their five-game road trip with wins over the Kings and Lakers. But after a bad loss to the Suns and an embarrassing one to the Warriors, they need Saturday’s game to remain above .500.

The Knicks complete their West Coast road trip Saturday against Anthony’s former team, the Denver Nuggets.

Melo told Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News that the Denver game is a must-win for New York.

“It’s a big game for us. It’s a big game. Must-win. I know it’s early, but this is kind of a must-win mentality for us,” Anthony said. “Started off the road trip pretty good, had an opportunity to win in Phoenix. That was one we let slip away. (On Thursday against Golden State), it is what it is. But (Saturday) we have an opportunity to turn this into a good trip for us.”

Melo made his feelings about Saturday’s game clear.

Anthony obviously wants to against his old team, but Jeff Hornacek still hasn’t made a decision on the status of Anthony or Rose.

There appears to be some confusion between player and coach. In all likelihood, we’ll see Melo on the court tonight. D-Rose is another story.
