According to Kevin Ding of Bleacher Report, New York Knicks‘ Phil Jackson has no plans to use the opt-out clause in his contract.
The rumors of a reunion between New York Knicks President of Basketball Operations Phil Jackson and the Los Angeles Lakers have been going on for a year.
Back in Feb. Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical doubted Jackson’s long-term commitment to New York.
There’s still a strong belief Jackson will eventually find his way to his fiancée Jeanie Buss and the Los Angeles Lakers.
But on Thursday there was another kind of Jackson-related story making the rounds.
Kevin Ding of Bleacher Report offered a different take on Jackson’s future in New York. One we’ve never heard before.
“Jackson fully intends to finish the two years after this season on his Knicks contract. Despite all the attention on his opt-out clause in 2017, he might even want to do a new deal that starts in 2019.”
The Zen Master explained in his now controversial interview with ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan that he included the opt-out clause in case there was a lock-out. Jackson didn’t want to, “Sit in New York for three, four months when [he] didn’t have a job.”
With the new CBA agreement in place, there is no cause for concern that Jackson could leave
