The Buffalo Bills’ GM hasn’t made a decision on whether Tyrod Taylor will be their future QB. If he’s not, the New York Jets should inquire.
Here we are once again. The New York Jets will head into an offseason again in need of a quarterback.
Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith will be headed out the door, leaving the two young guys — Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg — as the only two QBs on the roster.
Based on what we’ve seen from the Jets so far, they don’t seem comfortable with either of the two at the moment. With that said, they would be most likely looking for a veteran to come in here and, at the very least, compete for the job.
It recently came out that the Buffalo Bills aren’t sure about Tyrod Taylor and his future with the team. If Taylor becomes available, the Jets should pull the trigger and get him in here.
The options at the QB position are slim picking. In all likelihood, Tony Romo will go to Denver — so there goes that idea. Then there’s Jay Cutler, who I wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole.
Other than that you have Brian Hoyer would be an option (yawn). Mike Glennon is also a name that often comes up, which is slightly more intriguing.
And then there’s Taylor.
If Taylor is made available he would by far be the best option on the table. Last year he put up pretty nice numbers as a first year starter.
He threw for just over 3,000 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He started 14 of the 16 games for the Bills in 2015.
Although his numbers have come down slightly this year, through 12 games he has 11 touchdown passes and five interceptions, all while throwing for 2,292 yards. It’s nothing special, but there are a few factors in mind that make Taylor intriguing.
First and foremost, it’s clear he doesn’t turn the ball over. What has been the biggest issue for the Jets this year with the QB position? Turnovers. In fact, it’s been a problem ever since Brett Favre came to town back in 2008. Every QB has had turnover issues since that point.
In addition to his lack of turnovers, he also throws a very nice deep ball. This was put on display when he torched the Jets’ secondary in Week 2.

What makes this interesting is the thought of Robby Anderson beating DBs down the field and having a QB who can actually get him the ball. The Jets can finally begin to stretch the field, which naturally — as a result — frees up the running game.
Granted, in all likelihood, either Brandon Marshall or Eric Decker will be moved to free up cap space.
So let’s say that the Jets roll with Decker, Quincy Enunwa, and Anderson as their receiving core in 2017. That’s a lot better than the Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin combination the Bills are currently going with. Right off the bat, Taylor would be working with more talented receiving options, which could ultimately boost his stats.
The other element to his game is his ability to run with the ball. He does have six rushing touchdowns this year and he averages almost 40 yards on the ground per game. The dual threat QB can help extend plays and add another factor that the opposing defense will have to prepare for.
Taylor is not the perfect QB, and obviously there is a question as to whether the Bills want him back or not next year. However, if Buffalo decides to go in a different direction, there’s your best option at the QB position for 2017.
