New York Giants: Odell Beckham Jr. still complaining about officials following loss

The New York Giants winning streak came to a crashing halt after their 24-14 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. OBJ had his own ideas as to why.

A lot of questions were beginning to percolate discussions about the New York Giants win streak prior to Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Particularly regarding the difficulty of those games, as the combined record of their opponents during that winning streak is a paltry 23-48-1.

The Steelers provided the first real test for the Giants since the Baltimore Ravens a month and a half earlier. Following the game, Odell Beckham Jr. didn’t want to blame the refs for the loss, but he kind of did anyway.

“It’s not that I’m sitting here saying the refs are the reason we lost the game, but there is plenty of calls in the game and anybody can go watch the film. Anybody,” Beckham said to ESPN.

OBJ’s apparent beef was that this was the same officiating crew that was involved with the Josh Norman situation from last season. If anyone’s memory is foggy on that, he drew three personal fouls and, eventually, a suspension from the league after the bitter matchup with Norman.

“I don’t really think we should have this crew anymore when the Giants are playing, with the past history and everything that has gone on,” Beckham said to ESPN.

The officials did call eight more penalties against the Steelers than they did the Giants though. So it’s fairly clear that the Giants had bigger issues than just the refs.

Usually when you hear the broadcasting crew mention, “that was vintage (insert player)”, that’s typically a good thing. Not when that player is Eli Manning though. He threw an awful interception across his body in the fourth quarter on Sunday – a microcosm of an entirely disappointing day for Big Blue.

So while OBJ may want to point to the refs as the problem, their own offensive identity issues are really what caused this demise.

The Giants still are 8-4 though, with their destiny in their hands. All the while, they still possess the fifth seed in the NFC Wildcard race if the playoffs were to start today.
