The New York Yankees have reportedly offered two top-tier closers, Aroldis Chapman and Kenley Jansen contracts.

According to Brian Hoch of MLB.com, the New York Yankees have offered Kenley Jansen and Aroldis Chapman contracts.

Brian Cashman refused to say if one of the offers is for six years — which is what Chapman was asking for.

Chapman, who struck out 12.6 batters per nine innings with the Yankees before being traded to Chicago, owns the most strikeouts (617) among major league baseball relievers since 2011.

Jansen not far behind and both are expected to surpass Mark Melancon’s four-year, $62 million contract with the Giants which broke Jonathan Papelbon’s record for the highest check given to a closer.

Cashman, although offering both closers a deal, would be smart to avoid a deal with Jansen due to the 17th draft pick in next year’s draft he’d pry away from New York.

In 2015, they took young stud James Kaprielian with the 16th pick and selected the highly touted Blake Rutherford with the 18th pick this year.

That being said, they’d unmistakably like to retain that pick, which sits right in the middle of 16 and 18, to continue to support that wave of youth that has made the Yankees such an assuring threat in the long run.

We’ll see how this unfolds but know this: the Yankees may answer their rival’s deal for one of baseball’s best starters with one of the better relief signings in the game. Whether that means success as well will be figured out.
