Carmelo Anthony: Tony Brothers Has Personal Issue with Me

New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony was quickly thrown out of Friday’s game against the Boston Celtics by Tony Brothers.

“I don’t want to say it’s personal but I always feel like it’s something,” said a disgruntled Anthony to Al Iannazzone of Newsday on Saturday.

During the second quarter of the Knicks 115-87 loss to the Boston Celtics, Melo received two technicals within 30 seconds of one another. The first came after Amir Johnson and Melo got wrapped up following a missed free throw and Anthony was called for a loose ball foul. The second came after Anthony said some not nice words to Brothers.

Or did he?

Melo, who has some history with Brothers, also told Iannazzone that he didn’t say anything that warranted him being thrown out of the game.

Brothers was an official during a Knicks/Celtics game in 2013 when Kevin Garnett infamously made a comment about Anthony’s wife, LaLa, saying she tasted like Honey Nut Cheerios.

LaLa says that comment never got made, but Brothers was the referee who helped mitigate the situation between the two stars and assessed double technicals. Neither guy got tossed, and it didn’t seem like Melo was singled out.

Although it doesn’t look like there’s an issue between the two, LaLa is certain there is and took to Twitter to reveal it:

Since Brothers will more than likely officiate another Knicks game this season, I’ll present a game plan to Jeff Hornacek: put a muzzle on Carmelo.
