The New York Giants will look to win their fourth game in a row as they take on the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football. The last time the Giants won four in a row was during the 2013 season.
There are several things the New York Giants will need to do to pick up the victory and improve to 6-3 this Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals.Here are five keys to victory for the Giants.
1. Don’t give up big plays to A.J. Green
The Giants cornerbacks have done a solid job all season containing opposing team’s top receiver. On Monday night, they’ll face the best receiver they’ve faced all season in A.J. Green.
Green has 14 receptions of 20 yards or more and is averaging 112 receiving yards a game. If Janoris Jenkins and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie can contain the Bengals best offensive weapon in Green, they’ll win the game.
2. Use screen passes to slow down the Bengals front seven
The Giants will be without Justin Pugh, so the offensive line will have their hands full against the Bengals front seven. By dialing up screen passes this will slow down the Bengals pursuit of Eli Manning and could help open holes in the running game.
3. Increase Paul Perkins playing time
Despite the Giants struggles running the football, it’s becoming more evident that Paul Perkins is the Giants most productive running back. Last week against the Eagles both Perkins and Rashad Jennings had 14 touches with Perkins gaining 47 yards and Jennings gaining 39. For the season Perkins also has a higher yards per carry than Jennings averaging 3.4 to Jennings 2.6. Having Perkins be the Giants lead running back gives them the best chance to win.
4. Eliminate the turnovers
One of the reasons the Giants have played in seven games that have been decided by seven points or less is because they routinely turn the ball over. The Giants are currently -7 in turnover differential, which is 30th in the league. In a game against two evenly matched teams, the Giants can ill-afford to lose the turnover battle.
5. Shutdown Tyler Eifert
For the past several seasons, the Giants have struggled covering elite tight ends. This was one of the reasons the Giants signed linebacker Keenan Robinson. Robinson and safeties Landon Collins and Andrew Adams will have their hands full covering Eifert.
In the Bengals last game against Washington, Eifert had nine receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown. Giants cannot afford for Eifert to have similar production against them.
