Kenny Atkinson’s Brooklyn Nets came into Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night with a rude attitude. Their play was fundamentally sound while knocking down four 3-pointers en route to a 29-19 lead after one quarter of play.

The Garden crowd was dead silent.

After chipping away with sound defense in the 2nd-quarter, however, the New York Knicks used a few key parts in surging past the Nets in the 3rd-quarter in picking up the 110-96 victory.

Melo & KP:

Carmelo Anthony, after a terrible start that saw him not pick up a single point in the first frame, scored 13 consecutive points for the Knickerbockers in the 3rd-quarter, one that had his team outscore the Nets 22-16. He finished the night with 22 points (9-22) with rebounds and two assists.

Kristaps Porzingis continues to impress offensively. He poured in 21 points on 7-of-15 from the floor. The stat line included four 3-pointers, one of which was seemingly shot from Port Authority:

Brandon Jennings:

Backup point guard Brandon Jennings was the enthusiasm and energy the squad needed tonight. When he entered the game in the second-half, he did not leave the game (as Jeff Hornacek rode the hot hand in favor of Derrick Rose).

Jennings only finished with three points, but dished out pretty dimes all night long, including this one to KP on the bounce:

B-Jenn finished with 11 assists in total to go along with three rebounds and a steal.

Vujacic, Hernangomez, Kuzminsaks

After a sluggish first half, Hornacek went a completely different bench in the second. Instead of Lance Thomas and Justin Holiday, the likes of Sasha Vujacic, Mindaugas Kuzminskas, and Willy Hernangomez provided life to an otherwise dead squad.

Hernangomez was especially solid. He collected 14 points and six rebounds in just 15 minutes of play, all coming in the second half.

Defense, Nets

It was obvious the Knicks talent overcame the Nets solid fundamental play as the game chugged along, but it was the defense that propelled the win. The Nets could only muster 41 points on a porous 28 percent shooting in the second half.

After playing wonderfully early on, Atkinson’s lack of talent caught up. Brook Lopez led the way with 21 points on 8-12 from the floor. Justin Hamilton came off the bench to also score 21, 10 of which came on 3-pointers (5-7).

Next Up

The win moves the Knicks to 3-4. Next up will be a Friday night date with the Celtics in Boston.
