New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has declared that a deal involving Brian McCann does not seem imminent.
After all the speculation, signs are pointing to the New York Yankees holding on to Brian McCann.
According to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports and MLB Network, Brian Cashman said a trade involving their 32-year old DH/catcher “does not appear imminent.”
McCann, who will likely take over as the team’s primary designated hitter, slashed .274/.361/.387 with three home runs and 15 RBI while penciled in the lineup as the DH in 2016.
He also joined Yogi Berra, Johnny Bench, and Mike Piazza as the only catchers in history to have more than 20 home runs in 10 straight seasons.
One can assume a possibility of a deal is evaporating into thin air thanks to the full no-trade clause that was implemented in McCann’s contract when he signed with the team back on Dec. 3, 2013.
Houston and Atlanta were among teams that were interested. This also could rule out the additions of Carlos Beltran, Edwin Encarnacion, Kendrys Morales, or anything of that nature.
