The New York Yankees will begin their offseason scouting efforts on Monday when they plan on attending Greg Holland‘s return showcase.
Former all-star closer Greg Holland will be throwing for scouts on Monday in Scottsdale, Arizona. There is certainly no surprise throughout the baseball world that the New York Yankees will be attending the showcase.
They are in need of bullpen help and Holland could be available at a very low price. According to George A. King of the NY Post, they’ll see if that low price is worth it.
Now, of course, many teams will have a heavy presence at the event but it is possible that the Yankees would be the team most willing to give the right-hander any extra money that he wants with many of the team’s big contracts coming off the books.
Holland could be a perfect fit in New York, especially with the team looking for some support for Dellin Betances in the back-end of the bullpen. In his six years in the majors, the closer has a 2.42 ERA with 145 saves and was very good prior to his injury-plagued 2015 campaign.
If the Yankees could somehow find a way to land both Holland and Aroldis Chapman in the offseason, they could possibly head into 2017 with yet another three-headed monster for the second straight year.
