New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo, once again, let’s the media know that he doesn’t appreciate the antics of Odell Beckham Jr.
Though he played the role of hero and saved the day for the New York Giants, Odell Beckham Jr remains in the public eye due to his sideline antics.After scoring two touchdowns in the second half of the game against the Ravens, Beckham hugged and “proposed to” the kicking net.
Most notably, however, Beckham pulled his helmet off immediately after he scored his second touchdown, practically asking the referees to penalize him. He got what he was asking for, and the Giants were penalized 15 yards. Though this ultimately had no impact on the outcome of the game, had the Ravens scored on that final drive, Beckham would likely be blamed for giving the Ravens great field position due to his silly penalty.
Ben McAdoo (aka Mr. Mellow) offered his thoughts on Beckham’s behavior, per Kristian Dyer of Metro:
“He came up to me right after. We had a discussion about it. Can’t have it,” Mcadoo proclaimed. “He knows that. He went out and wanted to fire up the kickoff coverage and the defense. He knows we can’t have it. We need to keep our focus on the ballgame.”
McAdoo publicly criticized Beckham in the beginning of the season, then he took back his words and tried to prove that he has his receivers back. It now seems like he is back to the critiquing.
Whether or not McAdoo is making the right decision in publicly critiquing Beckham is irrelevant. Beckham must learn to let his actions speak for him, rather than trying to add his goofy antics to the aftermath of his fabulous plays.
At the end of the day, the Giants won the game, and Beckham should be credited for the win. However, if the Ravens were to pull off a game-winning drive, Beckham’s 15-yard penalty would be the topic of discussion for weeks to come.
