In absolutely horrific news, Miami Marlins’ ace José Fernández was found dead off of the coast of Miami beach.

According to multiple reports, Miami Marlins’ star pitcher José Fernández was killed early this morning in a boating accident near Miami beach.

The 24-year old was a two-time all-star with the Fins in addition to earning National League Rookie of the Year honors back in 2013. He possessed a 2.58 ERA over four years with the Marlins.

The Marlins have released this statement about Fernández:

“The Miami Marlins organization is devastated by the tragic loss of José Fernandez. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time.”

The Marlins have also cancelled today’s game against the Atlanta Braves in light of the news.

Besides being one of the best pitchers in all of baseball, Fernández had one of the brightest personalities in the sport. He lit up the ballpark every day whether he was pitching or not. The Cuban superstar will certainly be missed.

All of us at ESNY send our thoughts and prayers to Fernández’s family and everyone else that is impacted by this devastating news.
