New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones reveals what Eli Manning told him after Sunday’s 32-31 victory in Tampa Bay.

On Sunday, a new era (as far as fans hope) began for the New York Giants. Rookie quarterback Daniel Jones received his first career start in a must-win game for Big Blue. A 0-3 start, regardless of the quarterback under center, is not what you want as an NFL organization, especially with the fans of New York.

Jones went into the game against the Tampa Bay Buccanneers around the 4:05 p.m. ET start time. Just a few hours later, he’s a hometown hero. The former Duke Blue Devil completed 23 of his 36 passes for 336 yards and two touchdowns.

He also carried the ball four times for 28 yards and two scores on the ground, one of which was the go-ahead score. Big Blue won the game 32-31, and Jones revealed what Eli Manning told him after the win.

“Just congratulations. Just [that he’s] happy for me,” the rookie said. “I can’t thank him enough for the support throughout the week and today during the game. [I’m] just really grateful and appreciative.”

Jones completed a comeback most didn’t think would occur. The Giants went into halftime down 28-10. They gave up six scores (three touchdowns and three field goals) to the Jameis Winston-led Bucs on six possessions in the first half.

However, with the magic of the so-called “Danny Dimes,” paired with the improvement of the secondary and pass rush, the Giants were able to complete the comeback and improve to 1-2 on the season.

For what it’s worth, Jones is now 1-0 when trailing by 18+ points during a game. Manning is 0-44 in his career when in that spot.
