Does Ed Oliver know something we don’t know or is he just hoping to hear his name called by the New York Jets?

Standout defensive lineman Ed Oliver showed the New York Jets some love prior to the 2019 NFL Draft. The University of Houston product reposted a video from Houston-based trainer Rischad Whitfield that predicted Oliver to Gang Green.

This seems like it’s more of Whitfield gassing up Oliver rather than a tell that the Jets are selecting Oliver. Perhaps this means more, but I wouldn’t count on it.

That being said, it’s telling that Oliver is reposting the video and showing that he’d be thrilled to be with the Jets. Most mock drafts have Oliver falling past the Jets, but don’t be surprised to see him go somewhere in the top 10.

Oliver is an absolute beast on the defensive line and he could be a top-tier talent at the next level. In three years with the Cougars, Oliver accrued 192 tackles including 53 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks. He might not be the dominant EDGE rusher the Jets are looking for, but his talent is undeniable.

Rather than drafting Oliver third overall, perhaps the Jets are still looking to trade back and acquire draft capital. In that case, they could potentially select the dominant defensive lineman at a slightly lower pick.

Of course, so much can change before the Jets select at No. 3. Although the general consensus seems to be that the Arizona Cardinals will select Kyler Murray first overall, if they don’t, a number of teams could look to move up to No. 3 and snag the dynamic Oklahoma quarterback. In that specific, however unlikely scenario, the Jets snagging Oliver seems like a realistic proposition.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
