The New York Knicks aren’t messing around this offseason, as they hire on Kaleb Canales from the Dallas Mavericks to assist David Fizdale.

The New York Knicks are a whole new team…maybe preparing for a potential LeBron James arrival this fall?

Regardless, with the hiring of David Fizdale, the Knicks believe they have found their man at head coach. Now, they have hired on former Dallas Mavericks assistant Kaleb Canales to serve as an assistant coach, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Canales not only served as an assistant for the Mavericks but he also played a key role in helping their offense run more effectively. He also spent some time as a interim head coach with the Portland Trail Blazers back in 2012, according to Wojnarowski.

Now his role for the Knicks is a little bit more pressing, especially since he’s coming to the Knicks after they compiled a lackluster 29-53 record last season, missing the playoffs once again.

But Canales will get some great pieces to work with on offense. He’ll hopefully be able to work with Kristaps Porzingis, assuming he’ll be back and healthy come the start of the 2018-19 season. He’ll also hopefully be able to straighten out Enes Kanter on the offensive end.

There are incredible opportunities for Canales if he chooses to take them. With nothing to lose, why not take that shot?

Canales has been in basketball for his entire career, although he never played on the court. He got his start in the coaching field when he was hired as an assisted for the Trail Blazers in 2008 and has since worked his way into two other organizations.

With the hiring of Fizdale and now the hiring of Canales to serve as an assistant, the picture has become so much clearer for the Knicks. Fresh faces are making their way to Madison Square Garden for hopefully a fresh start.
